Solfa

AI that understands people and helps shape better ways to work and live.

What we study

Solfa researches and builds Social AI. Our current focus is embodied social intelligence. We start with embodied interaction, using robots to observe how people and AI attend, communicate and coordinate through gaze, language and movement.

Where we come from

The Solfa team comes from the frontier AI group of Huawei's 2012 Laboratories, with years of research and product practice in HCI and HRI. Over the past decade, we worked as core members on the first-generation Magic AI phone and the Xiaoyi Genie social robot. From phones to robots, we have always studied how intelligent systems interact with people.

What we believe

We founded Solfa to keep interaction at the core of AI research and products.

People are the purpose

We want technology to help people work and live better. People's safety, privacy and freedom to choose come first. The people who use a system should have a part in shaping it.

Interaction is part of intelligence

How people and intelligent systems perceive, understand and change each other is part of intelligence itself. Good help starts with understanding the situation and the person in front of us.

Work like an ensemble

We share a structure and leave room for improvisation. We listen, respond and adjust as others change, defining questions and creating new possibilities together.

Turn research into useful products

We care about turning research into products. We build our ideas, bring them into real settings, and let use and feedback challenge our assumptions and improve the work.

Curiosity and execution

Curiosity and the drive to make things happen keep us moving. We ask questions worth pursuing, test our ideas and follow through to turn them into something people can use.

Listen. Respond. Improvise.

Human–AI collaboration is like jazz.

It has structure, but not every passage is written in advance. Each participant listens, responds, and adjusts what comes next as the other changes.

True collaboration does not happen inside any one participant. It happens between them.

This is also how we understand intelligence, teams, and collaboration.

The future is already taking shape. Building AI that could serve billions of people is, to us, one of the most exciting challenges of our time. It deserves our best judgment, imagination, and engineering.

It is complex enough to matter and elegant enough to pursue, because this path ultimately leads back to people.

We welcome collaborators across machine learning, embodied intelligence, HRI/HCI, cognitive science, design and engineering—to define questions, establish methods, and create new possibilities together.

If you also believe the future of AI is not only about what AI can accomplish alone, but what people and AI can create together—

Join Solfa, and help us complete this ensemble.
